This first semester will be running a whole host of events focused on the ancient world. Stay tuned for more specifics as to room numbers and times.
Weekly Film Screenings:
Every week we will screen a film on the ancient world and mythology. It will range from sword and sandal epics, to modern blockbusters, to political docudramas. These are an excellent way for the lover of ancient history to improve their cinematic education, or for the cinemaphile to expand their horizons.
Regular Reading Groups:
This semester we plan to hold reading groups for Latin and Greek to encourage the development and practice of translation skills, as well as encouraging a more holistic understanding of the classical canon.
New Members Gathering
A fantastic opportunity for new members to meet veterans and the exec and to answer any questions about the society. This will be held sometime early in semester.
Week 4 Toga Party
As is Gaius Gracchus tradition, we plan to hold a Toga Party sometime in Week 4. This is a fantastic opportunity to let one’s hair down and relax in classical garb, whilst enjoying union subsidised food and drink.. Come and meet and mingle with your fellow scholars and enthusiasts.
Trivia Night
Held after the mid-semester break, this is a great opportunity to show off your eclectic knowledge of ancient medical practices, culinary delights and other arcane and otherwise wonderfully useless knowledge. There will be prizes, but the night need not be totally competitive; there will be union subsidised food and drink.
